Google accounts are indispensable. Gmail, which is primarily used by many for email, is even tougher to go without. As such, forgetting your Gmail’s password or username, or both, can be daunting. If that is where you are right now, don’t fret.
You can recover your Gmail account, and we’ll show you how. There are different ways to recover your Gmail account. The methods vary depending on what precisely is the issue.
You may want to recover your Gmail account because you’ve forgotten your password, email address, or even, worse, might have wiped out your Account completely, among others. In either way, we’ll handle them all below.
How to Recover Forgotten Gmail Account Password
In case you have forgotten your account password;
Go to Google’s account recovery page.
Enter your email username and click Next

Answer the follow-up questions.
N/B: To increase your chances of success, do the following;
- Try not to skip too many of the questions asked. Even better, try to give each question your best shot than passing.
- Use a familiar device that you previously used to access your Account, same browser as well if possible.
- Try to be in a familiar location, e.g., at home or work.
- Pay great attention to security-related questions like passwords and try your best to give the best answer – avoid skipping such questions.
- Provide as much information as possible when asked why you can’t access your account. Some tangible reasons can be because of specific error messages, maybe you’re on the move – traveling, etc.
If all goes well, Google will ask you to reset your password.
Enter your new password then follow the prompts to complete the process.

How to Recover Forgotten Gmail email address
If you forgot your email’s username, do the follow to recover it.
Go to Google’s username recovery page.
Enter the phone number or recovery email address linked to the Account, and tap the Next button

Enter the full name of the Account
Click “Next.”
Google will check if the details match. Once the process is complete, Google will show several usernames similar to your Account.
Now, select the username you think matches your Account, sign in with your password(if you remember it), or reset the password using the previous section’s instructions.
How to Recover a deleted Google Account

If, for some reason, you deleted your account, you can also get it back.
Follow these steps to recover a deleted account:
Go to Google’s usual account recovery page.
Enter your deleted email address
Tap “Next”
Enter the last password that you remember using the Account and click “Next”
Alternatively, tap “Try another way”. For this method, you’ll have to use a familiar device, network, or access from a familiar location
Follow the prompts and answer the asked questions as precise as possible to help Google confirm it’s your Account
When your Account is finally recovered, create your new password to finish the process.
Recover hacked or compromised Google Account
If your Account is either hacked or compromised, follow these steps;
Go to accounts.google.com and sign in to your Account
If you can’t access your Account, follow our guide on how to recover your password in the first section using the account recovery option.
Take a look at your account activity page.
Tap Security on the left side navigation panel
Click Review security events under the Recent security events panel
You’ll see the most recent events in the past 28 days considered a threat to security.
Tap on an activity to confirm if it was you or not. Click “Yes, it was me” for recognized activities or “No, secure account”, then follow the prompts if not true to bolster your Account’s security.
You can also review the devices linked to your Account through Security > Your Devices.
Remove devices that you don’t recognize or no longer use
