Google Chrome homepages can get boring. You have many background images to set, but let’s face it: GIFs are more fun. They are pretty personal and adds an extra oomph on that homepage than what can be achieved with an image.
So, you ready to set your favorite GIF as your Google Chrome homepage background? Here’s what you need to do.
Step 1. Download your favorite GIF
Search your favorite GIF on Google. In this example, I went for a baby Yoda GIF because I love Star Wars. Right Click on the GIF then choose the “Save As” option. See highighted option below on the right-hand side of the image with a pop-up menu.
You’ll have to choose the download location then you have to add a “.PNG” extension after the GIF name. Then under the file format section ensure you choose the “All Files” option instead of GIF. This process is very important.
Step 2. Set the GIF as your Chrome homepage background
After saving the GIF with a .png extension, next step is to set it as the background.
Open a new chrome tab and tap on the “Customize” button located at the bottom right. You’ll see this customization display.
In the customization display, choose “Upload from device.” You’ll be taken to the file explorer where you need to choose the GIF we downloaded earlier.
After that, voila, there goes your GIF and nice-looking Chrome homepage background up and running. Note: We just took a screenshot but it’s a GIF playing in the background.
