Ever since Oculus co-founder Nate Mitchell left Facebook last year, he hasn’t publicly revealed his next move yet – until now. Nate has launched his game studio dubbed Mountaintop in partnership with several veterans in the industry.
“All of us at Mountaintop grew up playing, making, and obsessing over games. It’s that passion that led us to work at companies like Oculus, Naughty Dog, Epic, Respawn, Double Fine, and Hidden Path,” Nate wrote in a blog post.
The studio will be focused on building multiplayer games. For now, Nate says they are a small independent studio but the ultimate goal is to become a mid-sized one. It will be a remote-first studio.
For now, Nate isn’t ready to share any further details. The studio currently only has five workers and they want to hire some more people into the team as well.
The company will tip on its first title earliest in 2021.
“We’re not ready to share details on our first title yet, but we think we’re on to something special.” Much of the upcoming is still in the dark so there’s no setting of expectations, at least as of now.
