Facebook owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp is receiving a couple of new exciting features. One of the most exciting features is the ability to add contacts by scanning a QR Code instead of manually feeding the digits in.

Here are the four main features announced by the company today;

Animated Stickers – For people who use Telegram on the daily, you know how amazing animated stickers are. They’re so cool! WhatsApp Messenger has been missing out on this feature for a long time but soon you will be able to send and receive animated stickers on the platform as well.

Add contacts via QR codes – Long gone are the days when you had to manually fill in a person’s contacts. With QR Codes, WhatsApp is making it easy to add new contacts by just scanning a person’s QR code. No more tapping in their digits one at a time.

Dark mode for WhatsApp web and desktop – Remember the much-coveted dark mode? Yes, it’s finally coming to WhatsApp’s desktop and web versions. WhatsApp dark mode is already available on mobile, across Android and iOS.

Improvements to group video calls – WhatsApp wants to make it easy to focus on whoever is talking in a group video call by maximizing their  window to full screen. Now that the platform supports group video calls of up to 8 people, this is a much-needed improvement that makes improves on the product.

To maximize the participants video screen, just press and hold their video. In addition to that, WhatsApp has also added a video icon in group chats of eight or less, so you can easily start a group video call with one tap.

Status comes to KaiOS – KaiOS WhatsApp users can now enjoy the popular feature that lets you share updates that disappear after 24 hours.

For the unaware, KaiOS is a minimalistic OS that is meant to digitize feature phones by enabling them to install apps and browse the web more efficiently.
